It was a beautiful day on the Kaveri River Basin, and I couldn't wait to take Pravieen Kumar out for a Backountry fishing adventure. February is a prime time for fishing in this area, as the water temperatures start to rise and the fish become more active. We met up at Baytown right at 11:30 am, got our gear ready, and headed out to start the day.
Right from the start, the action was hot. We started working different spots, using a variety of techniques like fishing and live bait. It didn't take long before Pravieen's line started peeling off, and he hooked into a feisty Gag. That fish put up one heck of a fight, but Pravieen stayed calm and landed it beautifully. Not long after, we spotted a big Bull shark cruising nearby, and I couldn't resist casting a bait out to see if we could get it to bite. Sure enough, the shark smashed the bait, and Pravieen was instantly into another intense battle. He did a great job handling that powerful fish, and we were able to get it to the boat for a quick photo before releasing it.
As the day wore on, the bite just kept getting better. We started seeing Lookdown show up, and Pravieen was able to add a few of those acrobatic fish to the mix as well. The Backountry fishing here is so much fun - you never know what's going to hit your line next. Between the variety of species, the great weather, and Pravieen's enthusiasm, it was just an all-around fantastic day on the water.
