Alright, let's dive into this fishing trip report! I had the pleasure of guiding Pravieen Kumar on a BackCountry fishing adventure along the Kaveri River Basin in Baytown. February is a fantastic time to hit the backwaters around here, as the clearing weather and warming waters have the fish really fired up.
We met up at the usual spot in Baytown, got our gear sorted, and headed out to start our search. The Kaveri River Basin is full of incredible diversity, and we were hoping to get into a variety of species. It didn't take long before the rods started bending – Pravieen hooked into a feisty Bull shark that gave him one heck of a fight. After a spirited battle, we were able to carefully release the shark, ensuring it swam off strong.
Next, we focused our efforts on the flats, targeting Gag and Lookdown. The fish were really active, and we had some great action sight-fishing, using a combination of lures and live bait. Pravieen was on point with his casts, and we landed several nice Gag as well as a few Lookdown. The variety of species and the technical nature of the backwater fishing really kept us on our toes – it was an awesome challenge and a ton of fun.
All in all, it was a fantastic day out on the water. The weather cooperated, the fishing was solid, and we had a great time exploring the Kaveri River Basin. If you're looking to experience some world-class backwater fishing in the Baytown area, I can't recommend our BackCountry fishing trips enough.
