It was a beautiful February morning when John Rogers joined me for a Deep Sea Fishing trip out of Naples, Florida. The Gingerbread Construction Co meeting spot was quiet as we loaded up the boat and headed out into Rookery Bay National Estuarine Research Reserve. The weather was partly cloudy, which is ideal this time of year for targeting offshore species like Crevalle jack and Sheepshead.
As we reached our first fishing spot, I could see the water was in great shape - nice and clear, which is perfect for spotting baitfish and predators. We started slow, working some live bait rigs and casting lures, but it wasn't long before the action picked up. John hooked into a feisty Crevalle jack that put up an incredible fight, stripping drag and making some acrobatic jumps before we were able to get it in the boat. That got the adrenaline flowing, and we stayed on the hunt, adjusting our techniques to find the best bite.
The next few hours were a blast, with steady action on both Crevalle jack and nice-sized Sheepshead. John was a natural, keeping his cool under pressure and making some beautiful hook sets. Between the catches, we enjoyed the beautiful coastal scenery and had some great conversation, talking fishing and sharing stories from past trips. It was the perfect mix of solid angling and quality time out on the water.
By the time we wrapped up, we had a nice box of fish and some awesome memories to take home.
